BRIEF
Project Description:
Tourism of Tenerife and the Cabildo of Tenerife needed a comprehensive Air Connectivity Strategy to strengthen and diversify the island’s air network. As a destination highly dependent on air transport, Tenerife faced the challenge of consolidating its position as a leading year-round tourist center, while expanding its connectivity to new long-haul and intercontinental markets.
The objective was to boost sustainable growth, attract new airlines and routes, and improve coordination between public and private institutions to enhance the island’s competitiveness in the global aviation landscape.

GPA methodology applied:
GPA designed and implemented a structured, data-driven methodology that combined airport diagnostics, traffic analysis, benchmarking with comparable tourist destinations and market information. The consultancy assessed air services, performance and infrastructure at Tenerife North and South airports, developed demand forecasts and designed tailored business models for airlines on priority routes, identified target airlines and proposed incentive and cooperation mechanisms. GPA also supported institutional and commercial promotion through coordination with stakeholders and participation in key aviation forums such as FITUR, Routes Europe and Routes World. Project outcome:
Currently under implementation, the Strategy provides Tenerife with a coherent framework for route development and strategic positioning. It strengthens airline participation, defines clear target markets and priority routes, and lays the foundations for a more diversified, resilient and sustainable air connectivity model, positioning Tenerife as a benchmark among European island destinations.
